A phantasmagoria was a type of show that was popular in the late 18th, early 19th century in Europe and in the USA. It used magic lanterns (old-school projectors) and special frames with painted glass that could move, and these images would reflect on smoke in the dark.

Summary : it talks about the creator of Frankenstein, who has hidden in a house to escape his famous monster.
Gothic : sickening oppression, helplessness, frightful dreams, reveries, vain endeavours, misery, a hope destroyed, wickedness, fascination for Nature (Pathetic Fallacy).
The Castle Of Otranto, 1763
Summary : a woman who goes underground, under a church, and in a castle ; it's silent. There's a labyrinth of darkness, she's terrified. She feels someone is following her, and she can hear lots of noises, someone walking behind her. At the end, she sees someone who opens a door, but they run away when they see the light.
Gothic : underground passage, terror, night time.
